Vision and Foundation
Mission:
The Saadeh Cultural Foundation is a platform for free and rational dialogue, aiming to spread the thought of Antoun Saadeh and to stimulate high-quality cultural production in order to contribute effectively to fostering national awareness among the members of the Syrian nation, both residents and expatriates, across the broader world. This mission is grounded in the humanistic dimensions inherent in Saadeh's thought. The Foundation also seeks to promote the spirit of social nationalism by highlighting the creative achievements and cultural heritage of our civilization and the inventive spirit of our people, reflecting the nobility of our outlook on life, encompassing all that is good, true, and beautiful.
Vision:
A dynamic and pioneering cultural institution that reflects the refined worldview of Saadeh’s new philosophy of life, the universe, and art. The Foundation aspires to revive social nationalist culture as a leading force in awakening and revitalizing the Syrian people, and as a positive driver of the Syrian nation's creative vitality and potential.
Values:
The Saadeh Foundation for Culture draws its spirit from the values and lofty ideals of the social nationalist renaissance. It works to promote the values of freedom, duty, order, and strength, with an emphasis on the following renaissance-oriented attributes:
Commitment, competence, achievement, innovation, teamwork, and national spirit.
Foundation:
In 1998, a group of intellectuals and believers in the thought of Antoun Saadeh—Youssef Elias Al-Ashqar, Samir Salim Al-Rayyes, Ali Ismail Ghandoor, Hanna Adeeb Nader, and Ghanem Hanna Khneisser—came together and decided to establish an association dedicated to Saadeh’s intellectual legacy and its promotion and dissemination.
To that end, the group submitted an official request to the Lebanese Ministry of Interior to establish an association under the name " Saadeh Cultural Foundation." The Foundation was registered under Notice No. 6/D issued by the Department of Political and Administrative Affairs of the Ministry on February 18, 1999.
The Foundation was established with the goal of promoting the thought and intellectual legacy of Antoun Saadeh within political, intellectual, and cultural circles across the Arab world. This came particularly in response to the escalating political, national, and cultural crises that had fragmented Arab societies into rival factions and sectarian groups, and in light of the increasing impact of foreign intervention in our national and social affairs—an influence that fueled religious and ethnic conflicts. These conditions brought back to the forefront the fundamental question posed by Saadeh 70 years ago:
"What brought this misery upon my people?"
The establishment of the Saadeh Cultural Foundation came as a response to the founders’ awareness of the grave dangers facing the homeland, coinciding with the marginalization of reformist and enlightenment thought in favor of extremist ideologies, and with Arab leaderships’ subservience to international interference. As part of its effort to transcend this environment, the Foundation has since its inception undertaken numerous intellectual activities, all focused on highlighting and disseminating the ideas, teachings, philosophy, and principles of Antoun Saadeh throughout the Arab world.
The Saadeh Cultural Foundation is not a political party, nor a substitute for any party. It is an open platform for free dialogue, welcoming all those who believe in the secular principles and philosophy of Antoun Saadeh, even if they were never members of his party. It is also open to discussion and debate, respects differing opinions, and welcomes objective criticism.
